Cravings: The Pepperoni Pizza

Cravings & triggers have been a huge issue for me these past few weeks, I’ve been doing really good at handling them, for the most part, but sometimes you gotta just eat that cookie. I’m sure you know what I mean, right?

This weeks craving is pizza… so on a recent trip the local grocery store I picked up a few items to create my own healthier version of the standard issue, pepperoni pizza.

Ingredients:

  • Tia Rosa Tortilla Bread – 140 Calories
  • 1/4 Cup Contadina Pizza Sauce – 30 Calories
  • 1/4 Cup Fat-Free Mozzarella Cheese –  45 Calories
  • 17 Slices of Hormel Turkey Pepperoni – 70 Calories

Pop it in the oven for about 10 minutes at 400 degrees and the above is what you get; a homemade, pepperoni pizza that clocks in at under 300 calories (285), not bad.  I’ll be be looking for a healthier bread choice next time, I’m not sure how I wound up with tortilla bread, but it works.

If pepperoni isn’t your thing you can always mix it up with mushrooms, onions, or whatever else you like on your pizza.  I happen to love pepperoni so that’s what I went for.  If you wanted a few less calories you could use less turkey pepperoni if you wanted, I used the serving size stated on the package.

I use tortilla for personal pizza all the time. If you like veggie pizzas like I do they are really low cal. Just pile on the onion, peppers, mushrooms... yum.
  • Sadly I'm not a huge veggie fan. I really need to work on that :)
  • Nice alternative, Chris! Never tried tortilla bread, but pita works well, too! :)
  • The tortilla bread works just fine and I remembered why I didn't buy Pita's.. they were 200 calories each. I'm going to look for a whole wheat alternative next time I think.
